LAUSD voted to eliminate Adult Education in 2012-13.  What can you do?

  1. Download a Petition and collect signatures in your community: PETITION (click here) People who sign do not need to be residents of Los Angeles. We do ask that all people who sign be at least 18. PETITIONS ARE DUE FEBRUARY 3. We also have an ONLINE PETITION, please sign it too!
  2. Call (323) 929-2529  We will connect you directly to the School Board member who represents your school.  A tally of the calls will be posted here, so check back often. Download/Distribute flyers for ADULT SCHOOLS and for OCCUPATIONAL/SKILL Centers. (Flyers are in English/Spanish). Ask everyone you know to call!
  3. Send in pictures of Adult Education students and Supporters with signs showing your support to SaveAdultEdNOW@gmail.com  If you don’t have any printed signs, have students make their own signs as to why Adult Education is important to them. [pictures will be posted this weekend].

  1. Actually, I scanned at a high resolution and got similar results. The problem is that the lines of the petition are too light to reproduce well. Could someone go to the original document and darken the lines?

  2. We may be getting more signs printed (all were passed out to teachers and chapters chairs at the meeting Friday – check with your school’s chapter chair). Check back here for regular updates. Remember to send us pictures of the signs in store fronts, along with the address/location to SaveAdultEdNOW@gmail.com

  3. Steve Steinberg, Adult Ed Teacher and Educational Representative on the Granada Hills North Neighborhood Council on said:

I attended the Town Hall meeting at El Camino on 1/25 attended by Superintendent Deasy and School Board member Tamar Galatzan- of the 150 in attendance Adult Ed was very well represented. I took copies of the petition with me and passed them around during the meeting and by the end I had 100 signatures and there were only 150 in attendance!! I also handed out copies of the petition to my students and told them that each one of them needed to bring back 2 sheets full of signatures– and they are!! I’ve collected almost 20 sheets of 25 signatures so far– and still going strong!!

  4. Just posted the link to the petition on my Facebook page. Had all my students sign and gave them petitions to take home. Anyone that sits next to me on the train has to sign, and so did everyone in my building.
