Matthew Kogan addresses crowd about LAUSD Board’s decision

“They’re gonna cut [Adult Education], by about 75%”  He explains the LAUSD Board’s plan to essentially eliminate adult education for adults and basically only keep credit recovery programs for teenagers. “Adult Education is for Adults!” says Kogan, and crowd cheers.

  1. Although the LAUSD board made some sensible moves such as voting to put the parcel tax on the ballot, it’s clear that the battle to save adult education for adult students in LAUSD continues. The latest proposal is less brutal than the last proposal, but the excessive cuts leave too many students out in the cold.

I’d also like to address the cynics who say there is no chance to win. I don’t share that depressing conclusion – and today’s rally shows the degree of community support. Yet even if there are no victories to be won, there remain many important points to make. Matthew Kogan has done an outstanding job protecting adult students and teachers. Keep it up!
