On May 18, the L.A. City Council committee of “Rules, Elections and Intergovernmental Relations” voted in support of the proposed resolution by Councilwoman Jan Perry and Councilman Ed P. Reyes (which opposes cuts to Adult Education in LAUSD) to go before the whole of City Council for a vote.
If the resolution passes in City Council then it will become the official position, by the nation’s second largest city, against the budget cuts to Adult Education proposed by the LAUSD Board of Education –a powerful statement, indeed!
We are thankful to the Councilpersons on the Intergovernmental Relations committee who voted in support of this resolution! We are very grateful to Councilwoman Jan Perry for proposing this resolution and to Councilman Ed P. Reyes for seconding it, back on February 3 of this year.
We also recognize the hard work of those, over the past months, who have advocated for this resolution to get on the agenda of the committee. We are grateful to the staff of the Concilmembers supporting the resolution. And while it would be difficult to list the names of everyone, we want to recognize Blanca Perez, President of United Adult Students and Laila Boase, a United Adult Students representative and student body president of Metro Skills Center, who have tireless worked with the staff of Councilmembers in advocating for this resolution to move forward. We also recognize members of the Adult Education Committee of UTLA.
We look forward to this resolution passing in City Council! Contact your Councilmember today. Ask that she/he vote in support of this Adult Education resolution:
