  1. Adult education is so important. Personally give me a lot of oportunities thanks that i have a little place to study the language that i did not know which is english… I can help my child. Beside that i make my child proud of me. Cause.she sees me go to school. Yes to the oportunity to.be educated.

    • Hi Beatriz, thank you so much for sharing your personal experience! Please make sure to download a petition and collect signatures. Let us know if you have any questions.

  2. I am sharing this information with Occupy Los Angeles and the May 1 General Strike Coalition it has initiated. Education as a human right is a key value and demand of those movements, along with im/migrant rights and economic, social and environmental justice. Thanks for this important fight back mobilization against these terrible, shameful cuts. If you would like to do a “themed” general assembly at occupy Los Angeles on a Saturday at 4:00 PM (probably late Feb is the earliest available, or early March) let me know.

  3. Dear: Monica Garcia.
Hi, am a current student from Metro Skills Center. I have been study for almost two years to achieve High School Diploma, n has not been easy for me to study during the evening, but I have the satisfaction that am learning so many things at school to form myself as a better persona, at work, with family, n better communication with people.

My purpose to this email is to inform that the adult education is import to our community and develop to our socially. Not even to getting a better jobs or to be part our community. Basically the satisfaction of adult to achieve n persuade or personal goal in life which is education

  4. I support Adult Education and West Valley Occupational Center because I was able to get training in Air Conditioning and Heating and get my own business. Now I have a profession and I am a entrepreneur. This was a life changing experience for me and my family and I would like all adults in our community who want to study to be able to have the same opportunity I had.

  6. adult education is essential to treat or try to delete it is an attack to the staff not only overcoming, but a community. Let us avoid this

  7. I was supposed to graduate high school in 1992, however due to my attitude I managed to get kicked out less than 1 month before graduation. I didn’t complete 3 classes, and didn’t give it any thought until the economy affected my livelihood, and not to mention I had a child and wanted to right my wrongs so I could tell him that no matter what he can achieve anything if he put his mind to it.
I have one more test to complete my requirements and obtain my diploma. After that I will go into the cosmetology field and pursue a job in the entertainment industry once I’m secure in my job I will be able to send my son to a good preschool, give him a great education, and offer my son the things I was denied as a child because of hard times. I want to break the cycle of “just getting by” and believe it or not that first step was taken with Adult Education. It allowed me the time to complete my classes according to my schedule (1 year to complete vs. 1 semester at a community college.)
It is my feeling that if you take this program away many will suffer immensely. I understand the need to do things for the sake of budget cuts, but think of the alternative. If this wasn’t an option my next move along with many others would have been community college. I would have applied for a grant to pay for tuition and my books. So either way the State would be approached for assistance with education. At least this way you don’t run the risk of someone receiving grant money and not completing classes, but getting to keep the money. This way you let teachers continue to work, and by working they will put money back into the economy. If this program disappears so do all those jobs, which will result in unemployment claims and and even harder impact on our states economy. So how exactly does a proposed elimination of all funding for the Division of Adult and Career Education make any sense at all?

  8. I support Adult Education because it’s the key to improve our lives.I have been attending Pacoima Skills Center. I had improved my life because now, I can read, I can write, and I can speak English. I can help my children to do their homework and be successful in school. Also, I feel comfortable to talk with their teachers and be involved in their education. I think that the best way to encourage our kids, is teaching them with the example. So, please don’t cut money for adult education, don’t cut our future.

I support Adult Education. I attended San Pedro Adult School for many years. There I learned to write and to speak English, I was also able to get my High School diploma andwas also able attend to Los Angeles Harbor College. I got my AA inChild Development last year and I currently work for an Early Head Start Program. Without the help of these adult schools i wouldnt of been able to attain any of these degrees. I currently returned to Wilmngton Skills Center to better my computer skills.

  10. Want parents to help their children with their homework? Save adult education. Want the young adults to get off the streets, and live? Save Akult education. Want to talk to an intelligent person? SAVE ADULT EDUCATION!!!
